Job Summary:

Under the direct and general supervision of a licensed person as authorized under California B&PC 1269, Laboratory Assistants I receives and processes specimens and performs clerical tasks.


Essential Responsibilities:
  • Accessions, labels, sorts, processes, centrifuges, aliquots, prepares, plates, transports, and stores specimens
  • Prepares specimen for testing. Process specimens to include receiving, sorting, matching, prioritizing, batching, creating wordlists/worksheet, includes data entry and send-outs
  • Keeps work area neat, clean and well stocked
  • Prepares, labels, stores reagents, stains and culture media
  • Reads and transcribes digital temperature, humidity, weights, etc. and alerts a CLS for any suspicious outlier.
  • Safely disposes of hazardous/flammable waste and medical waste
  • Cleans and sterilizes laboratory/facility equipment, instruments, and glassware
  • Maintains printers and faxes, time stamps, and other equipment in the work area
  • Answers telephones and relays released test results
  • Performs other clerical duties, e.g., calling, faxing, creating reports, transcribing, records filing and retrieval, etc., as required
  • Performs other related duties (limited to non-licensed duties only) as necessary.
