Job Objective:

To assist the Kitchen Supervisor and staff in ensuring food is prepared and ready at scheduled times and assist in serving meals from the serving line.

Essential functions:

  • Assist the Kitchen Supervisor and staff in ensuring food is prepared and ready at scheduled times, including assisting in serving meals from the serving line.
  • Supervise kitchen helpers, assigning duties as required during absence of Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and order in the kitchen, including ensuring that all personnel on shift understand the need for personal hygiene, are clean shaven, and wearing clean and appropriate clothing.
  • Wear any and all assigned PPE provided, including but not limited to loves, masks, or back guard when doing substantial lifting.
  • Must be available for a flexible schedule; to work early shifts, late shifts, and some weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum of six months experience in institutional cooking required.
Certifications: Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive in accordance with the Salvation Army policy is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with customers, management and coworkers.
  • Basic computer skills including but not limited to the use of the payroll program, and all other programs or systems that are adopted by the TSA ARC.
  • Ability to use basic math skills.
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Train and supervise all kitchen staff. Document and provide requested job performance information regarding direct reports as required for review.

Travel:

May be required to travel to various locations for work or training.

Working Conditions:

The work environment for this position is in a kitchen environment with a moderate noise level. The environment may experience temperature fluctuations based on weather and is frequently warm and humid.
