Senior Sustainability Consultant – Task Lead

The Senior Sustainability Consultant (Task Lead) will contribute to overseeing the delivery of activities critical to the success of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Initiative (BBI). The role emphasizes leadership, coordination, and quality assurance across task areas, requiring close collaboration with other task leads, and the project executive team, to maintain seamless integration and high standards of delivery.

The Task Lead will ensure activities within their task area are executed effectively while managing and supporting the individuals implementing the work. Key responsibilities include tracking progress, maintaining timelines, monitoring staffing levels, and addressing challenges. For some activities, the Task Lead will contribute directly to project delivery to ensure success. The activities that fall under the Task Lead’s supervision are as follows:

  • Partner peer exchange activities within and across sectors
  • Better Buildings Accelerator support
  • Better Buildings Water and Waste Initiatives support
  • Annual in-person meeting support
  • Program website management
  • Development of the program’s annual report

The Task Lead will engage daily with a diverse range of stakeholders to shape the delivery of support within and beyond their assigned task area. This will include DOE staff within different offices including IEDO, BTO, and SCEP; National Laboratory experts from ORNL, NREL, LBNL, and PNNL; along with a number of different consultancies supporting DOE.

Required Experience: Candidates must demonstrate at least 8 years’ direct experience in energy efficiency or decarbonization for buildings or industrial plants, alongside a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service. The candidate will excel in professional collaboration and conscientiousness and be highly adaptable.

Preferred Experience: Candidates with prior experience working with the stakeholders mentioned above and a proven track record of successfully managing and overseeing complex, long-term projects are highly desirable.

Expected Salary Range & Benefits:

  • $110,000 – $120,000 per year.
