Who We Are:
The Washington State Conservation Commission (SCC) is a non-regulatory state agency that supports and coordinates our state’s 45 conservation districts and administers voluntary conservation programs. Together, the SCC and conservation districts provide incentive-based programs that empower people across Washington to take actions that keep natural resources and working lands healthy for all.

About the Opportunity:
As the Administrative Assistant, you will serve as a technical expert in data stewardship, development, and analysis, supporting the SCC and its data components. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the organization’s data within SCC applications. Key responsibilities include defining data standards, establishing data governance processes, and ensuring compliance with regulations for SCC products. In this position, you will act as a liaison between the SCC IT team and the data governance committee, integrating data standards, development, and architecture changes. Additionally, you will serve as an IT Data Steward to support business needs, monitor data usage, and identify potential data quality issues. You will also provide technical solutions related to data for development groups and data management, translating technical discussions into accessible language for non-technical peers and associates.

Duties

Some of What You’ll Enjoy Doing Includes:

  • Data Stewardship: Ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the organization’s data.
  • Defining Data Standards: Establish and maintain data standards to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Data Governance: Implement and oversee data governance processes to manage data effectively and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Data Quality Monitoring: Regularly monitor data usage to identify and address potential data quality issues.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation related to data standards, processes, and governance.
  • Identify Common Issues: Compile a list of frequent minor issues users encounter, such as password resets, software installation, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Create a Knowledge Base: Develop a repository of solutions for common issues, including step-by-step guides and FAQs.
  • Provide Remote Assistance: Use remote desktop tools to assist users in real-time, guiding them through the resolution process.
  • Follow Up: Check in with users after resolving their issues to ensure everything is functioning correctly and gather feedback on the support provided.
  • Document Solutions: Record solutions for each issue to update the knowledge base and enhance future support.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research methods, statistical theory and techniques, sources of study information, current project theory, principles and problems; statistical reasoning and statistical procedures.
  • Ability to identify and obtain appropriate data to analyze, make arithmetic computations quickly and accurately, analyze and interpret complex data, write clearly and concisely, follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skilled at learning new concepts quickly, working well under pressure, and communicating ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Personable, firm, fair, and hear others effectively.
  • Strongly promote and adhere to process improvement, change management, standardization, and effective documentation, and apply lean/ITIL methodologies.
  • Understanding and application of Agile Scrum methodologies as they apply to product, project, and operations within software development lifecycles.

In addition to the above required qualifications a candidate must possess the following education and/or experience options:

  • A Bachelor’s degree including college level course work in statistics and/or mathematics; AND
  • One (1) year of experience working as a Data Consultant 1 or in an equivalent role.

OR

  • An Associate’s degree; AND
  • Three (3) years of work experience in statistics, analysis, or research.

OR

  • Equivalent education/experience.

#4 Accountability and dependability

Keeps supervisor informed of progress on work assignments and identifies potential barriers and problems to supervisor. Ask for assessments and input from supervisor and other managers to ensure quality of products and to keep projects on track. Assists in setting meaningful deadlines and provides progress updates to affected stakeholders. Ensure tasks are being handled by self and team members, monitors his/her work, shares work as needed with other members of team. Assumes responsibility for decisions made and outcomes. Looks for solutions and doesn’t make excuses. Provides notification to supervisor and staff when unexpected absences due to health or injury occur within 2 hours of scheduled start time. Sets a good example to staff by reporting to work on-time and leaving on-time. Coordinates with staff to ensure work is covered and meetings rescheduled when unavoidable absences occur. Utilizes work time effectively.
